MACKINAW SEASON DRAWING TO A CLOSE

With the exception of sturgeon, mackinaw are Idaho’s largest game fish. As they are most active  when the water temperatures drop to 42 degrees Fahrenheit, fall fishing at Priest Lake begins around Thanksgiving and runs to the end of the season on Dec. 15. Sandpoint angler Dell Brown recently caught a 28-lb. Mackinaw in Priest Lake while angling with Priest River fisherman Bill Romero.

WINS PRIZE MONEY IN FINNISH “PICKS”

Mrs. Fred Erickson, her daughter, Mrs. Agnes Dahl, and her son, Jim, and Mrs. Betty Michelson, all of the Selle district, returned from a four-month vacation with relatives in Finland. While there, five-year-old Jimmy Dahl proved that the American boy is truly sports-minded by winning the weekly prize money in the Finnish equivalent of Pigskin Picks. The game there is sponsored by the government; cards are sold at 10 cents each, listing the week’s English soccer games. Out of a possible 13 games, young Jim (nephew of Severt Erickson of Sandpoint Furniture) picked 11 winners. His prize was 5400 Finnish marks, about $25 in American money.
