As part of the annual Press Christmas for All campaign, we share stories of those who have received help from the program. This is one of them.

After losing her way for some time, “Sarah” is getting back on track.

A struggle with addiction had led to a string of losses for Sarah, including her home, her ambition and ultimately, her self-respect.

After becoming homeless, Sarah sought help from the Union Gospel Mission’s Crisis Shelter. It was only then that she was able to begin her journey of healing and recovery.

Since then, over the past year, Sarah has found sobriety, strengthened her faith in Jesus and reconnected with family.

“I am most proud of my sobriety and how far I have come in life,” she said. “I have developed a strong personal relationship with Jesus and have reconnected with family.”

Kirsten Ridgewell with Union Gospel Mission can also attest to just how far Sarah has come.

“Sarah worked so hard the minute she got into the program at UGM,” Ridgewell said. “She received the help she needed and showed ongoing support and accountability.”

Ridgewell referred Sarah to Press Christmas for All for financial assistance with a root canal, a costly procedure that can make it difficult for people to keep up with everyday expenses.

Without the burden of medical debt, Sarah can focus on her future. She has enrolled in North Idaho College and hopes to study in their Licensed Practical Nursing program.

“She is doing so much to move forward in her life and moving toward being self-sufficient,” Ridgewell said.

Each year, Press readers generously donate to Press Christmas for All. Every penny raised goes to Kootenai County residents. The Hagadone Corp. covers all overhead costs.

The gift recipients are our neighbors who are struggling, including seniors, people with disabilities, veterans, people experiencing homelessness and those with mental illnesses. Many who seek assistance from Christmas for All are working but living in poverty.

Beneficiaries of Press Christmas for All keep their dignity while the community provides a hand up to help get them back on their feet.

Press Christmas for All is managed by The Hagadone Corp., with assistance from charityreimagined.org. It is a legally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers.
