Basketball teams find their footing at Frenchtown Tip-Off

The Bigfork girls basketball team took a pair of losses last weekend in the Western A Tip-Off tournament at the Frenchtown High School gym.

The Valkyries fell to Frenchtown 47-38 on Friday, then suffered a narrow defeat to Dillon 56-54 on Saturday.

Paeton Gunlock led the team against Frenchtown with 23 points. 

Gunlock was the leading scorer against Dillon with 20 points. Chloe Norred added 9 and Desirae Dell nailed a trio of three-pointers.

The girls opened the season with a 64-38 win at Hamilton.

The Valkyries head into Christmas break with games against Stevensville, Lockwood and Havre.

The Bigfork Vikings also went 0-2 at the Tip-Off, falling to Frenchtown 40-69 and to Dillon 44-53. Against Frenchtown, Austin Savik led the team with 14 points, Tamret Savik chipped in 10 and Justin Gates added 9.

The Bigfork boys opened its season last week by edging Hamilton on overtime, 49-47. 

Austin Savik scored 14 points and Tamret Savik added nine, including five in overtime.

Treker Hickey and Justin Gates added 11 points each for the Vikings.
