BillRay Holotta won second place at 150 pounds to highlight Plains-Hot Springs Savage Horsemen efforts in the Bob Kinney Memorial wrestling tournament in Superior Saturday.

As a team the Horsemen scored 39.5 points to finish 12th in scoring in Superior.

Matthew Thurston (132 pounds), Owen Jermyn (138), Remy Ryan (150) and Beau Crabb (157) all competed in the Kinney but didn’t reach the medal round. The winner of the 157 pound title in the Polson Invitational the week before, Plains senior Brock Ryan did not compete in the Kinney tourney Saturday due to a prior commitment.

Coach Jesse Jermyn said Plains’ girls wrestlers headed for a girls tournament in Kalispell Saturday and did well there.

Up next for both Plains grappling teams is the Arlee Christmas tournament in Arlee Saturday, the last official action of the season for Savage Horsemen and Trotter grapplers.

Jermyn said his team is in this wrestling thing for the long haul.

“We pushed hard in practice last week and didn't fully recover before the weekend tournaments,” he said. “Individually we wrestled well and saw great improvements from the previous week. As we progress the improvements will start to translate into podium finishes.”
