The Columbia Falls boys basketball team split the bill at the Northwest-Southwest A tip-off tourney in Frenchtown over the weekend.
The Wildcats beat Dillon 55-41 in the opener Friday, but lost to Butte Central 60-52 Saturday.
Central hit six straight treys in the second quarter and while the Cats played well, they couldn’t close the gap on that shooting performance from the Maroons.
Against Dillon Jory Hill had 15 and Bjorn Pedersen had 14 in the win. Hill was 60% from beyond the arc. Caleb Mee had 9 and Easton Brooks 7.
Against the Maroons, Hill had 14, Brooks had 13 and Pedersen had 12.
Coach Chris Finberg was pleased with the play against Dillon.
“I thought our defense was really good,” he said. “And offensively we moved the ball and shot pretty well.”
Against the Maroons, he said both teams played well, but with the second quarter flurry of threes by Central, it was tough to close a 15-point lead they had at the half.
They were able to cut it six late, but that’s as close as they got.
The Cats travel to Browning Friday and Saturday to face Miles City and Hardin another tourney. Miles City should be a tough out and Hardin always plays well.
