Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 1 day, 12 hours AGO
Shannon LaRae (Haeder) Vaughn age 52, of Priest River, Idaho, born June 17, 1973, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash., was the first child of Sheryl Ann (Miller) Lutz and Kenneth Bruce Haeder, passed very peacefully into the arms of Jesus on the late evening of Dec. 4, 2025, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, at the Schneidmiller Hospice, after an incredibly courageous 16 month battle with pancreatic cancer, she passed peacefully surrounded by her husband, son, pastor and his wife.
In her early years she spent precious time with her grandparents at Fall Creek in Naples, Idaho, and the family wheat farm in Pullman, Wash., which shaped her upbringing and instill a deep love of the Inland Northwest. As a child, her family spent time in central Washington and in the greater Seattle area, but between summers, holidays and vacations she always found herself returning to North Idaho.
Shannon put God first in every aspect of her life, being baptized by her father May 16, 1990, at the Federal Way Church of Christ. Shannon and Kevin met at the youth/college group at church and eventually married July 31, 1998, and faithfully attended at the Enumclaw Community Church, in Enumclaw, Wash. Kevin and Shannon began their married life in Buckley, Wash., where they purchased their first home. It was these years that Shannon completed beauty school to become a cosmetologist starting her career in a small salon in downtown Enumclaw.
Residing in Buckley for 17 years, Shannon and Kevin hosted numerous family events, opened their home to friends, and brought home their two children, Coleman and Sierra. The kids competed in community sports, were home schooled and joined the band and drama classes at Enumclaw Middle School.
In August 2015, they seized an opportunity to finally relocate to Priest River, Idaho, where Shannon lived until her passing. Shannon and Kevin loved the great outdoors, made obvious by a life filled with camping, hunting, huckleberry picking and any opportunity to enjoy God's creation on their 8 acres. They enjoyed many business trips and vacations to places all across the country with times spent in Bahamas. Aruba and every Hawaiian Island were certainly among some of Shannon's favorite memories. If it had white sand, palm trees and sunshine she was in her happy place. She enjoyed a 2024 trip to Alaska to see her daughter Victoria, her husband Andrew, and grandsons Tysen and Abraham.
Shannon had many hobbies she was passionate about, most she did all at the same time. Scrapbooking, ancestry, card making, crafting, sign-making, cross stitching, sewing, cooking, organizing, administrating, accounting, care giving, gardening, exploring and she was an entrepreneur of over a dozen businesses. She loved family game nights. She started a woman’s traveling scrap booking group called the Betty’s, her nickname was Organizer Betty.
In Shannon's final years, she found renewed purpose with the marriage of son Coleman and wife Destiny. The birth of daughter Sierra’s, her granddaughter Madelynn, the care only a Noni can provide. Her family, and faith were the centerpiece and most treasured parts of her life and sustained her throughout her lengthy illness. Throughout Shannon's life she was always the caretaker, and being cared for in her final year was maybe the most difficult part of her journey.
Shannon was a loving caregiver to so many in her all-too-brief life and the care she gave came from an abiding love and example of Jesus. Shannon lived a life marked by her love, her conviction, and her contentment for all that was dear to her. She will be missed in the ways she cared and loved so many, and the hole left cannot be measured by those who were blessed to receive her gentle and caring presence. She was a serious person, but her smile and laughter filled a room, lightened dark places, and will forever live on in those she loved so much. You always knew where Shannon stood on a topic, and she was as unrelenting on her opinions as she was on the love for those she held close to her heart. Her conviction marked who she was. She would never relent even if she was wrong, but she likewise would never give up on those whom she loved. While her nature could seem stubborn to those who didn't know her, it was her inability to "give up" that made her grace for everyone around her so powerful.
Shannon is survived by her husband, Kevin Elliott Vaughn of Priest River, Idaho; daughter Victoria Michelle (Vaughn) Hudson and son-in-law Andrew Hudson of Palmer, Alaska; son Coleman Matthew Vaughn and daughter-in-law Destiny (Mathis) Vaughn of Hayden, Idaho; daughter Sierra Janelle Vaughn and future son-in-law Jason Foster of Rathdrum, Idaho; father Kenneth Bruce Haeder of Bonney Lake, Wash.; mother Sheryl Ann (Miller) Lutz and step-father Larry Lutz of Tacna, Ariz.; sister Sheree Lynette Haeder of Puyallup, Wash.; brother Paul Daniel Haeder and sister-in-law Andrea (Lanphere) Haeder of Kalispell, Mont.; granddaughter Madelynn Raine Lindsey, grandson Tysen Hudson-Kruse and Abraham Hudson of Palmer, Alaska.
