PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Roos’ highly efficient night helps Sandpoint to overtime win over West Valley

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 months, 2 weeks AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 18, 2025 1:00 AM

BOYS

Sandpoint 70, West Valley 67 (OT)

SANDPOINT — It's hard to name a player that disrupts an opposing team's game plan more than Logan Roos, and that's exactly what he continued to do Tuesday night against the 2A Greater Spokane League defending champions.

The senior forward posted a season-high 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor, pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and recorded three blocks as he controlled the paint in the Bulldogs' three-point overtime win over the previously undefeated Eagles at Les Rogers Court.

"We were looking through Derrick Chamberlain on that very first play of the game to establish our presence in the paint," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love said. "Logan understood that and really executed. I thought we did a good job getting him the ball in spots where he could be effective... he set the tone and had some big buckets for us. Credit to him, he's been working super hard, and credit to his teammates for finding him."

Sandpoint led by as much as 10 points after an 8-0 run to start to second quarter, but West Valley battled back with a 14-2 run and the team's traded buckets from there on out. Trailing 58-57 with 1:10 remaining in regulation, junior Knox Williams, who had six points, three assists and a pair of blocks and steals, hit a three-pointer off a pass from junior Brock Yarbrough to give the Bulldogs a two-point lead. Yarbrough, who had 12 points, six rebounds, and a team-high five assists, then connected with Williams for another three-pointer with six seconds to go to make it a 63-60 game, but West Valley's Nathan Zettle hit a high-arcing rainmaker that found all net as the buzzer sounded to force an overtime period.

In overtime, Roos scored four of Sandpoint's seven points, Yarbrough scored the final basket of the game via a mid-range floater while surrounded by defenders, and the Bulldogs made two defensive stands across the final minute for the win.

"We had that overtime game on Friday, and even though we lost that, it's still an experience that we knew would pay off; I wasn't hoping that it would be this soon, but we showed we were ready for it," coach Love noted. "We came out an executed — credit to this team. Saturday left a sour taste in their mouths and they were anxious to get back on the court, especially against a great program like West Valley, and go out and compete."

Senior Noah Willard erupted for a game-high 30 points, including six three-pointers, and Zettle had 21 points and a game-high nine assists for West Valley, which is now 4-1 and came into the contest with wins over Cheney, Shadle Park, Rogers and Ephrata.

Junior Logan Iverson hit two triples as he produced 12 points and four rebounds for Sandpoint (4-3), which also got eight points from junior Derrick Chamberlain and will host Priest River on Thursday for a non-league affair.
