PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bonners Ferry storms to wins over Colville, Moscow

Bonners Ferry 56, Colville 40
Junior Taren Bateman dominated on back-to-back nights, scoring 38 points as Bonners Ferry outscored the Colville (Washington) Crimson Hawks by 16 points on Dec. 16 on the road.
The Badgers started off strongly, leading 22-7 after the first quarter, before a 17-10 second quarter in favor of Bonners Ferry gave the team a 22-point halftime lead. However, the game became a little closer as Colville outscored the Badgers by nine points in the third quarter, before Bonners Ferry closed out the game to claim the win.
Junior Nolie Hiatt was impressive on the boards, with her ten rebounds the most on the team. Hiatt and freshman Jaycee Bateman scored six points each. Freshman Bristol Hill had five assists and three steals, both team -highs.
Sophomore Kayle Petersen scored four points and added three rebounds.

The day before, at home, Taren Bateman scored 34, senior Hallie Thomson added six while not missing a shot and Bonners Ferry outscored the Moscow Bears on Dec. 15 by six points in the final quarter to get back to winning ways. The final score was 52-44 for the Badgers.
Bateman was the team’s highest scorer with over 70% of Bonners Ferry’s points. She also added eight rebounds, most on the team. Bristol Hill had seven rebounds, while Nolie Hiatt had five. Hiatt also added a three-pointer in the game’s last few minutes to effectively clinch the win.
The Badgers came out of the blocks quickly, jumping out to a 14-7 lead. Moscow answered back, with a 17-13 advantage in the second quarter that gave Bonners Ferry a three-point lead at the half. Moscow briefly held a one-point lead in the third quarter, but Bonners Ferry ended it up two points, before pulling away to win by eight.
Senior Alexys Mierke was injured for the entire game. Kayle Petersen came into the rotation, playing twelve minutes, grabbing three rebounds and looking assured. Jaycee Bateman had a team-high three steals and junior Eva Willis fought to grab five rebounds. She drew a clutch foul in the final quarter.
