SPOKANE VALLEY — Senior Jackson Bowman scored a team-high 19 points, but just as important was his defense as the Lake City Timberwolves rallied for a 64-59 victory over the Central Valley Bears on Friday night.

“We started getting stops, stepped up our defense,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “(Orland) Axton (a junior swingman) was giving us fits. We made a couple adjustments and he didn’t score in the last quarter. Jackson Bowman was fantastic on him. He was fantastic on both sides of the ball.”

Bowman also had eight rebounds for Lake City (5-3), which trailed 50-42 entering the final quarter.

Josh Watson added 16 points and nine rebounds for Lake City, Jordan Carlson had 14 points and six boards, sophomore Andy Irgens had seven points, and Paxton Winey had three steals.

Axton finished with 25 points for Central Valley (5-2), which beat reigning state 4A champion Gonzaga Prep by 14 points a week ago.

“We didn’t feel like we played great,” Anderson said, “So to come away with a win against a team as good as CV ... “

Lake City plays Annie Wright of Tacoma, Wash., today at 3 p.m. at the Moda Center in Portland.

Post Falls (4-3) was outscored 18-6 in the second quarter and trailed 40-22 at halftime. The margin grew wider in the third.

“Gonzaga Prep, they’re as tough as they come,” Post Falls coach Jayson Ulrich said. “Their physicality wore on us, they got us out of sorts and we didn’t respond.

"I’ll take full responsibility for that. I’ve got to have them more physically tough and mentally tough.”

Jaxon Lysne scored 12 points, Cashton Bodman 10 for Post Falls, which played without senior Connor Carver (illness).

Dylynn Groves scored 13 points to lead Gonzaga Prep (5-2).

“They are disciplined, and just played harder than us tonight,” Ulrich said of the Bullpups. “Sometimes you need to get smacked in the mouth; it should be a good wakeup call.”

Post Falls plays host to Moscow on Saturday.
