PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: One year after injury vs. Central Valley, Pearson leads Lake City past Bears
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 6 hours, 42 minutes AGO
SPOKANE VALLEY — Redemption wasn’t something that Lake City was seeking heading into Thursday’s game at Central Valley.
But a road win is surely nice.
Junior Ella Pearson, who tore her ACL last Dec. 20 in a home game against Central Valley, scored a game-high 15 points for the Timberwolves in a 46-41 win over the Bears to improve to 2-7 on the season.
“I don’t know if her injury was on her mind, but she played 31 minutes for us tonight and played great,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “She was a nice key for us.”
Lake City extended its lead to 43-40 on a layup by Courtney Johnson with 47.8 seconds remaining. Central Valley missed a tying 3-pointer with under five seconds remaining.
“We did a nice job defensively,” Pratt said. “They shoot it a lot from the perimeter, but the girls were really getting after it in the second half. I was proud of our effort.”
Lake City faces Liberty of Spangle, Wash., in the Greg Larson Memorial Tournament today at 4 p.m. at Freeman High in Rockford, Wash.
Draeyelle Domebo scored 12 points for Central Valley (4-3).

RATHDRUM — Freshman Jaeli Hoffman scored a game-high 16 points, one of four players in double figures for the Hawks in a win over the Highlanders of Spokane at Hawk Court.
“Tonight, we came out with better intensity and sustained it for all four quarters,” said Lakeland coach Caelyn Caufield, whose team beat Post Falls 53-44 on Tuesday at home. “Everyone contributed, making it a true team effort. And I couldn’t be prouder of this group. It was encouraging to see the improvements we’ve been emphasizing in practice translate to the game.”
Junior Macy Bretveld scored 14 points and senior Karstyn Kiefer and junior Presley Fagan scored 11 points each for Lakeland (7-1), which faces Garfield-Palouse on Tuesday at Palouse (Wash.) High.

SPIRIT LAKE — Junior guard Macy Murphey scored 21 points for the Tigers, who battled back from a 15-0 deficit in the first quarter to pull within 47-41 with 4:30 remaining before falling to the Bulldogs at Timberlake High.
“We dug ourselves a pretty big hole in the first couple of minutes,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We just threw it to them, and they were able to get some lay-ins and got up on us.”
Sandpoint junior guard Brecken Mire hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 51-41 with under three minutes remaining.
“We were able to fight back and make it a game,” Miller said. “Once Mire hit the 3-pointer, we had to play the foul game.”
Junior Jordyn Tomco scored 22 points for Sandpoint (8-1). Mire added 17.
