PRESS CHRISTMAS FOR ALL Putting money where it matters
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 6 hours, 48 minutes AGO
Earlier this week, Super 1 Foods donated $7,500 to Press Christmas for All, continuing its longstanding legacy of dedication to the community.
“The generosity of the McIntire family and Super 1 Foods is nothing short of extraordinary,” said Clint Schroeder, president and corporate publisher for Hagadone Communications. “Their ongoing commitment to the Coeur d’Alene Press’ Christmas for All program is a powerful reminder of what it truly means to invest in a community. They don’t just support Christmas for All — they embody it. Their annual participation is a powerful example of what giving with purpose looks like.”
The giving spirit of the McIntire family and other donors make it possible for those like “Megan” to get the hand up they need from Press Christmas for All.
Though employed, Megan finds herself scraping by each month. Unexpected costs can throw a major wrench in her already-tight budget, which is the situation she found herself in after needing to pay for vehicle repairs.
When Louisa Rogers with the Center for New Directions at North Idaho College looked over Megan’s budget, she knew she needed help, especially as a single mom.
“The current cost of childcare was too much for (Megan) to manage alone,” her applicant story reads.
Press Christmas for All was able to gift Megan three months of financial assistance for childcare, bridging the gap in her budget until her child began kindergarten in September.
As a condition of the award, Megan enrolled in CND’s Pathways to Prosperity, a financial wellness initiative designed to support single moms and low-income individuals. She hasn’t missed a single session, Rogers shared in an October update to Megan’s application.
Now, Megan is focused on putting her money where it matters.
“In the past 12 months, I have prioritized myself and my son over choosing unhealthy relationships to lessen my financial burden,” she said. “One year from now I would like to have an emergency fund of at least $500.”
Megan’s story is a reminder that a hand up from one’s community can be the guiding force that gets them on the path towards a better, brighter future.
Each year, Press readers generously donate to Press Christmas for All. Every penny raised goes to Kootenai County residents. The Hagadone Corp. covers all overhead costs.
The gift recipients are our neighbors who are struggling, including seniors, people with disabilities, veterans, people experiencing homelessness and those with mental illnesses. Many who seek assistance from Christmas for All are working but living in poverty.
Beneficiaries of Press Christmas for All keep their dignity while the community provides a hand up to help get them back on their feet.
Press Christmas for All is managed by The Hagadone Corp., with assistance from charityreimagined.org. It is a legally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers.
