SANDPOINT — A Spokane resident facing a handful of charges for alleged crimes committed in Bonner County is expected to face trial early next month.

Justin Raymond Scott, 35, is facing charges of felony injury to child, battery on a peace officer, possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine) and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence (second offense), resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and injury to child.

Scott could face the maximum penalty of up to 25 years in prison and a $120,000 fine if convicted. He currently resides at the Bonner County Jail on a $100,000 bond and has been in custody since Aug. 13.

During a pretrial conference Dec. 9, Scott was denied a motion for bond reduction, with court documents noting that Scott had a bed date at American Behavioral Health Systems, an addiction recovery service.

He is expected to stand trial on the charges against him Jan. 7, 2026.

Officials became aware of the alleged crimes Aug. 12 during a welfare check at Round Lake in Sagle, where witnesses alleged Scott had arrived at the campground, stumbling out of his vehicle and appearing intoxicated. Witnesses noted Scott with an infant, alleging that he slapped her for crying before walking her down to the beach.

Documents contend that law enforcement found Scott passed out about one foot from the water, with the infant awake and near the lake.

Officials took the infant, with Health and Welfare taking custody of the child due to a lack of family in the area. Documents indicate that the infant did not need medical attention at the time of Scott’s alleged actions.

Medical personnel administered multiple “sternum rubs” to wake Scott, where he gained consciousness with heavily slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Documents alleged a distinct smell of alcohol from Scott.

After being told he was under arrest for endangering the infant, a probable cause affidavit noted that Scott attempted a wrestling move, single leg, to get the arresting officer on the ground. After police reinforcement arrived on scene, Scott was placed in a safety restraint.

Scott's vehicle was additionally towed, where law enforcement allegedly found open containers of White Claw and tequila, a marijuana vape and a container that tested positive of methamphetamine.

Documents note that a field sobriety test was conducted. Scott’s blood alcohol levels were recorded at .201 and .181.

Court files further indicate that Scott has been charged with four prior DUIs — excluding the Aug. 12 charge — since 2016. Three of those charges resulted in a guilty disposition, according to court documents.
