PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Sandpoint boys roll by Priest River for another non-league win

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 20, 2025 1:00 AM

BOYS

Sandpoint 77, Priest River 26

SANDPOINT — Senior Logan Roos amassed a double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds and came away with six steals — all team-highs — as the Bulldogs outscored the Spartans 63-12 across the final three quarters to clinch a 51-point non-league win Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.

Senior Caiden Gion had nine points, eight rebounds and three steals, senior Tyler Weisz 10 points and five rebounds for Sandpoint, which scored the majority of their points in the paint on the evening. Senior Kingston Corbett added eight points and four rebounds, junior Logan Iverson eight points, including two-three pointers, and dished out three assists in the winning effort.

"The Bonner County rivalry is big, and Priest River came out in that first quarter and really competed," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love said of the first frame, which ended on a buzzer-beater triple by Priest River High senior Lucas Mathews. "In the end, the boys ended up figuring things out and had a great performance. Logan Roos is coming back game after game with really good play. Proud of their effort, even though things went awry with some injuries."

Senior Ian Lamanna recorded 10 points and five rebounds, Mathews eight points, including two three-pointers, and sophomore Jacob Best four points and four rebounds for Priest River (2-4), which was without starter Madden Redinger on the night. Lamanna, Best and senior Brady Hatten, who had two blocks, all came away with two steals.

"We only had one guy in double-figures; we have to change that around," Priest River High head coach Brian Hall, who's had just one practice and four games since taking over the program mid-season, said. "There's things we have to work out and now we have two weeks to start running my system, my program. This team has a lot of talent — we'll regroup and we'll be all right."

Junior Knox Williams stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, a team-high six assists, five steals, four rebounds and two blocks for Sandpoint (5-3), which will travel to the GESA Winter Shootout from Jan. 1 through Jan. 3 where they'll face off against Sequim, Cheney and Wenatchee, in that order, at both Eastmont and Wenatchee High.

Priest River (2-4) returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 6, when they host Sandpoint for another non-league matchup.

Fast start, end propel Lady Bulldogs to victory

Sandpoint 58, Timberlake 42

SPIRIT LAKE — Junior Jordyn Tomco collected a game-high 22 points, five rebounds and three assists, junior Brecken Mire recorded 17 points, a team-high five assists and a team-high five steals and the pair both hit three three-pointers as the Lady Bulldogs used a 15-0 run to start the game and an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to take down the Lady Tigers in a non-league game held Thursday night at Timberlake High.

Junior Livia Driggs registered seven points, a team-high six rebounds, and three assists of her own, junior Jaylah Butler had six points for Sandpoint, which outrebounded Timberlake 25-18 and compiled 17 steals on the evening en route to their fourth straight win and ninth win overall on the season.

"The girls were really flowing, sharing the ball and playing that high-intensity defense we've been looking for this year — you could tell we were clicking on all cylinders," Sandpoint High head coach Madi Schoening said specifically of her team's first-quarter effort. "They're well-coached, Matt Miller has been there a long time, and Timberlake was able to get back in the game by figuring out ways around our press to get scores ... on our end, it was fun to watch Brecken's court vision tonight — she really had the intention of finding her teammates, especially after steals, and Livia was doing the same thing. A bunch of our players gave a lot of good minutes."

Junior Macey Murphey had 21 points, including four three-pointers, and five steals for Timberlake, which played without star guard Malia Miller and closed the gap to 31-26 midway through the third quarter and trailed just 47-41 midway through the fourth before the Lady Bulldogs ran away with the contest.

Junior Carly Laybourne chipped in two points and four steals for Sandpoint (9-1), which will play Lewis & Clark on Dec. 27 and Central Valley on Dec. 29, both of the Greater Spokane League, at the Eagle Holiday Classic set to be held at West Valley High.
