PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Record-setting Colvin leads Vikings into semis

MESA, Ariz. — Coming off a record-setting performance on Thursday, Coeur d’Alene High junior Brookeslee Colvin kept it going on Friday, tossing in 34 points as the Vikings beat Pinnacle of Phoenix, Ariz., 54-33 in the second round in the Dan Wiley Bracket at the Nike Tournament of Champions at the Arizona Athletic Grounds.
On Thursday, Colvin scored a school-record 41 points (breaking the previous record of 38, set by Madi Symons) and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in career scoring at Coeur d’Alene in a 62-21 victory over Liberty of Peoria, Ariz.
Lexie Wheeler added eight points for Coeur d’Alene (8-2), which plays Cathedral Catholic of San Diego today at 5 p.m. in a semifinal game.
Claire Carnal scored eight points for Pinnacle (6-5).

POST FALLS — The Trojans won for the fourth time in their last five games, beating the Wildcats of Mead at The Arena.
Junior Brooklyn Reese scored 17 points, junior Jaya Felix 14 points for Post Falls, which shot 12 of 15 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Senior Kailey Walton added 11 points for the Trojans.
“We didn’t play our best, but were able to pull out a victory,” Post Falls coach Brian Carlson said. “Brooklyn did a good job of leading us in scoring. Kailey had a big first half for us and hit some shots and played really well against their press. Gracie (Gluhak) came off the bench and played well defensively, rebounded and made some things happen.”
Post Falls (4-9) competes in the East Idaho Shootout starting on Dec. 29, facing Thunder Ridge of Idaho Falls.

POST FALLS — Chelsey Cate scored 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter and the Royals rallied from 10 points down after three quarters to beat the Mountain Christian League-leading Eagles at The Courts at Real Life.
Cate also had 11 rebounds and five blocked shots for North Idaho Christian (4-5, 4-1 MCL). Madison Salaiz added nine points, nine rebounds and four assists for the Royals, and Hollie Smith had 10 rebounds.
