Lizzy Norwood of Cabinet Peaks Medical Center was recently honored with The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses.

This national award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program recognizing the exceptional care and dedication nurses provide every day.

Lizzy was nominated for her outstanding leadership and clinical skills during a full trauma case at a small critical access hospital. With limited resources and a small team, she communicated effectively and delivered the highest level of care to her patient.

Along with her clinical expertise, Lizzy provided comfort and compassion to the patient’s family, setting a strong example for her colleagues and demonstrating the true impact of nursing excellence.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick passed away at the age of 33 in 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses inspired the creation of The DAISY Award as a meaningful way to thank nurses for the difference they make in the lives of patients and families.

Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, shared that when Patrick was critically ill, their family experienced firsthand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide around the clock. She noted that nurses are often unsung heroes and that the work nurses do every day truly reflects the purpose of The DAISY Award.

“Lizzie embodies compassion and is dedicated to caring for everyone, including her colleagues, which has significantly influenced CPMC," Chief Nursing Officer Tonya Teegardin said. "I feel fortunate to have been part of the celebration honoring this extraordinary nurse, whose dedication has profoundly affected her coworkers and the community we serve. Congratulations to a well-deserved recognition as a Daisy recipient.”
