Tri-State Invitational  

COEUR D’ALENE -- Kellogg junior Colton Storey did something that hadn’t been done in nearly 40 years. The reigning 3A 113-pound champ won the Tri-State Invitational Wrestling Tournament at North Idaho College.  

Storey, who dropped down to the 106-pound division, beat Gonzaga Prep freshman Karver Peasley via a 5-4 decision in the finals. He is Kellogg’s first Tri-State champion since Ryan Wood and Jamie Barnes took titles in 1987. 

Kellogg sophomore Carsun Hinkelmann was sixth at 126 for the Wildcats, who had seven wrestlers competing at the event and finished 20th as a team with 83.5 points.

PLUMMER — Senior Kyleigh Wolfe scored 23 points and sophomore Laila SiJohn added 21 as the host Knights broke it open in the third quarter en route to the Scenic Idaho Conference victory over the Miners at Ron Miller Court. 

Lakeside outscored Wallace 19-3 in the third quarter to expand its lead to 31 points.

Senior Kylee Phillips scored 10 points for Wallace.

MULLAN — Senior Avah Blankenship scored 19 points for the Tigers in a win over the Wildcats junior varsity at the Mullan Pavilion. 

Freshman Lacie Morris scored 10 points for Mullan. 

Emma Rupert scored five points for the Kellogg JV.

WALLACE — Junior Wade Van Gundy scored 16 points to lead the Tigers past the Miners in a nonleague game at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

Senior Brant Rush added 15 points for Timberlake. 

“The boys really stepped up on defense, led by Lake Hiaasen and Brendan Martin,” Timberlake coach Juston Henry said. “They put pressure on the ball all game and really made it hard for their shooters to get good looks. Wade and Brant Rush carried us on offense. They made some great decisions with the ball and hit their shots. Max Simpson was strong on the glass — really stopped the offensive boards that hurt us last time we played them.” 

Sophomores Cooper Miller scored 19 points, sophomore Lennox Radford 16 points for Wallace.

MULLAN — Junior Abraham Mudrick and freshman Jude Gama scored 12 points each and the visiting Saints jumped out to a 28-1 lead after one quarter in the North Star League opener for both teams at the Mullan Pavilion.
