The Polson School District Board of Trustees received the Honor School Board Award from the School Administrators of Montana (SAM). The recognition was announced at the opening session of the Montana Conference of Education Leaders (MCEL) on Oct. 16 at the Civic Center in Helena.

This award recognizes school boards in Montana that demonstrate exceptional leadership, collaboration, and commitment to student success.

Board Vice Chair Alan Anderson accepted the award on behalf of the trustees, who also include Chairperson Chanel Lake – Chairperson, Tim McGinnis, Shane Orien, Devon Cox, Nathaniel Netzer, Joanna Browning and Kathleen Collins.

Superintendent Andy Fors praised the trustees for their dedication and impact.

“Our board exemplifies what it means to work together for students,” said Fors. “They are unified, forward-thinking and deeply invested in our community. Their leadership has made a profound difference in the lives of our students, families and staff.”

Leadership and achievement

The Polson School District Board has led major initiatives that support student learning and long-term district success. Examples of their leadership include:

• Passage of a $40 million school bond in 2023, improving safety, capacity, and Career and Technical Education spaces in every building.

• Innovative programming, such as the VIP (Very Important Pirate) event for elementary students and families.

• Active engagement in classrooms and school activities, including mentoring, guest speaking, and even serving as judges for unique student projects.

• Strong community presence, supporting graduation, youth programs and district partnerships.

Fors noted that the trustees bring professionalism, stability, and shared purpose to their work.

“This board leads with respect, transparency, and unity,” Fors said. “They listen, they learn, and they always put students first. Polson is very fortunate to have this group of leaders.”

A plaque commemorating the honor will be displayed at the Polson School District office.
