The Badger boys basketball team played the Moscow Bears on the road on Dec. 18. Though it was a non-league game, the schools are league opponents in football.

It was 18-14 in favor of Bonners Ferry after the first quarter, as a contested bucket by junior Peyton Hinthorn in the final seconds gave them a four-point lead. The lead grew in the second quarter to 34-24, with senior Sulay Abubakari having an and-one opportunity after being fouled with eight seconds left in the half.

That lead evaporated, as Moscow hit a three-pointer at the very end of the third quarter to be in the lead by one point, 43-42. With the game in jeopardy, it was the Bears who started quickly.

With three and a half minutes left, Moscow had a 53-45 advantage and Bonners Ferry’s chances were slim.

However, senior Micah Thomson scored a layup, Hinthorn made a floater and senior Conrad Hiatt made a nice pass to set up two free throws for Hinthorn. Hiatt then stripped the ball from a Moscow guard, which gave the Badgers the ball down two points. Once again, it was Hinthorn who was fouled and made the shot, before missing the free throw. However, Abubakari got an offensive rebound and made a contested shot to give the Badgers their first lead of the fourth quarter.

With Moscow looking for an equalizer, Abubakari had a steal of his own, feeding the ball to junior Ty Schrock who put in and an-one.

From then on, the teams traded free throws, as Bonners Ferry escaped to win by six points.
