Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 hours, 45 minutes AGO
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The challenge might have been a little larger than normal, but Lake City was up for it, and then some on Friday evening.
Lake City, which led 11-9 after the first quarter, battled back from a 28-18 halftime deficit before falling to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, Calif., 55-45 in an opening round National Bracket game in the Torrey Pines Invitational.
“We fell down, and could have let it slip away,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “But we didn’t and showed some resilience.”
Junior Jordan Carlson had 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists for Lake City (6-4), which outscored Notre Dame 19-15 in the third quarter. Jackson Bowman had seven points and five assists
“We took their first punch and they trapped and pressed us throughout the first part of the game,” Anderson said. “We started to do a good job of reading where to go and then Jordan got hot a little bit.”
Lake City faces O’Dea High of Seattle today at 2:15 p.m. in a consolation game.
Navarro Bowman Jr., son of former San Francisco 49er Navarro Bowman, scored 17 points for Notre Dame (9-4), which is ranked 60th nationally by MaxPreps.com.
“They’re a better team than that and just got (Josiah) Nance back tonight,” Anderson said. “The way we’re defending right now, we’re finding a way to play with the best teams in the country. And it’s fun to watch.”
