COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cougars hold off Pepperdine

Charlotte Abraham had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Washington State in a 66-63 win over Pepperdine in the West Coast Conference opener for both programs in front of 997 at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman on Sunday.

Eleonora Villa had 16 points and four rebounds for Washington State (2-12), which snapped a six-game losing streak. Alex Covill, daughter of North Idaho College women’s basketball coach Nathan Covill, had four points and two rebounds for the Cougars in her first game since Nov. 5 due to a foot injury.

Elli Guiney had 26 points for Pepperdine (9-4), coached by Katie (Baker) Faulkner, who attended Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy and played basketball at Lake City High.

Washington State hosts Loyola Marymount on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Gonzaga 87, Loyola Marymount 80, 2OT: At Spokane, freshman Lauren Whittaker had 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Bulldogs (9-5) in a win over the Lions (6-6) in front of 5,179 at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Allie Turner had 20 points and six assists for Gonzaga, which outrebounded Loyola Marymount 46-31.

Gonzaga hosts Pepperdine on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
