Farragut State Park will be open for "First Day" hikes Jan. 1.

Events are scheduled throughout state park systems with offerings of various trail lengths, difficulty levels and times of day.

Idaho Parks and Recreation will be offering hikes at several parks, including Farragut. It will include a guided 2-mile hike to the Buttonhook Viewpoint Overlook; meet at Visitor Center at 10 a.m.; a Dutch Oven program will follow the hike with warm food to finish the morning.

Folks who don’t want to hike can hang with the cooking team at the fire ring.

“As our country starts to celebrate its 250th birthday in 2026, we invite you to start your year on a First Day Hike enjoying and celebrating our incredible public lands," said America’s State Parks President Paul McCormack.
