The Montana Grizzlies ranks are thinning, especially in the secondary, less than two weeks after their 13-2 season ended.
Kyon Loud, a cornerback coming off an impressive if injury-marred sophomore season with the Grizzlies, announced Wednesday on social media that he intends to transfer.
A lengthy post in Instagram thanks “Coach (Bobby) Hauck, Coach (Kim) McCloud, and the entire Montana coaching staff for believing in me,” and ends with, “it is in my best interest to enter my name into the NCAA Transfer Portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining.”
Loud made a splash as a freshman as well as this fall, before a shoulder injury suffered in Montana’s fourth game kept him out the rest of the regular season. He returned for the playoffs and performed well before reaggravating the injury in Montana’s “Super Brawl” FCS semifinal loss to Montana State.
Loud follows starting safety Diezel Wilkinson, who came to the Griz from Idaho a year ago, into the portal. Wilkinson had 76 tackles including three sacks as a sophomore this season.
Starting linebacker Caleb Otlewski made it known, through his girlfriend’s social media, of his intention to transfer on Monday. The sophomore, who began his career at San Diego State, had 79 tackles, including 9.5 TFLs, and two interceptions this season.
On Dec. 22 two reserve cornerbacks, Justin Breston and Rashid Mansour, announced their intentions to transfer. Breston appeared in four games; both players were freshmen.
Loud’s brother Kamil, a junior and 3-star cornerback at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, announced he’d Aptos (Body) been offered by Montana on Nov. 3. He’s also been offered by Kansas State, he reported.
Loud’s news came on the heels of quarterback Keali’i Ah Yat starting a post Tuesday on Twitter/X with the, “First and foremost,” line typically begins a departing statement; Ah Yat closed it with: “I’m having too much fun lol I’m back! #GoGriz."
