PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Sandpoint takes down Lewis & Clark, Central Valley by double-digit margins
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 hours, 4 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 31, 2025 1:00 AM
Sandpoint 55, Lewis & Clark 43
SPOKANE VALLEY — Junior Jordyn Tomco racked up a team-high 16 points, including the team's only three-pointer, junior Brecken Mire recorded 15 points and eight rebounds, five assists, five steals and two blocks — all team-high's — and the Lady Bulldogs used a 20-2 first-quarter scoring advantage to topple the Lady Tigers in their Eagle Holiday Classic opener held Saturday night at West Valley High.
Junior Livia Driggs added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals, sophomore Willow Betz eight points, six rebounds and two steals for Sandpoint, which led 47-32 with less than three minutes to go in the fourth quarter after Lewis & Clark closed the gap to 32-26 midway through the third frame.
"We've been getting into little lulls after the first quarter," Sandpoint High head coach Madi Schoening said. "Being able to knock down shots from the outside this year has been a struggle, so continuing to get those shots up and making them the right ones will be something we continue to work on too. Proud of the girls for how they thought through their lulls and closed the game out."
Rhiannon Kilgore had 16 points for Lewis & Clark, which used a 14-7 second-quarter scoring advantage to get back into the game and is now 3-5 on the year with the loss.
Junior Carly Laybourne chipped in two points, five rebounds, and three steals for the Lady Bulldogs, which forced 20 turnovers in the non-league victory.

SPOKANE VALLEY — Juniors Brecken Mire and Jordyn Tomco each scored a tied for team-high 19 points, junior Livia Driggs contributed 10 points, and the trio combined for seven of the Lady Bulldogs' eight three-pointers in a non-league defeat of the Lady Bears in their second game of the Eagle Holiday Classic held Monday night at West Valley High.
Mire, who had two triples, also dished out a team-high nine assists and Tomco, who had three treys, came down with a team-high five boards on the night. Driggs drained two triples and grabbed a team-high three steals for Sandpoint, which led 42-16 at halftime after erupting for 25 points in the second quarter as they closed out a 22-3 run across a six-minute span.
Sandpoint High head coach Madi Schoening said her team's full-court press and "go-go-go" mentality was key to another fast start on the night.
"The competitive nature that they have takes them a long way," coach Schoening noted. "They've been playing really well together, finding each other in transition, passing ahead, attacking hard, driving and kicking, and they have been sharing the ball really well, which has been a big change for us the last few games — and it's been paying off. It's huge when we're able to spread the scoring out like we did."
The win marks the Lady Bulldogs' third of the year against Greater Spokane League opponents — games in which they have won by an average of 22.67 points.
"The girls did a good job staying composed, putting up 42 points in a half is something we'll be able to look back on," coach Schoening said. "Really excited with how we're looking defensively, and we'll add in some things this week as we have some big games we are preparing for."
Olivia Patshkowski recorded 14 points, four assists and two blocks for Central Valley, which came back with an 18-13 effort in the third quarter and is now 5-4 on the season with the loss.

Spokane of the Greater Spokane League on Saturday night to wrap up their non-6A/5A Inland Empire League slate.
