PREP GIRLS WRESTLING: Sandpoint takes home North Idaho Rumble team title
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 4 hours, 58 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | February 1, 2025 9:00 PM
COEUR d'ALENE — Led by a first-place finish from junior Lilli Marti (235), the Lady Bulldogs continued their reign of dominance in North Idaho on Friday and Saturday by beating out 21 other teams to win the North Idaho Rumble tournament held at Coeur d'Alene High.
Marti, who is ranked No. 3 in the entire state, won both of her matches by first round pin to pick up her fourth tournament gold of the year. Senior Sylvia Becker (165), went 2-1, senior Emma Garman (120) went 4-1 with four wins by pin, and the two both placed second to help Sandpoint to their 178 points, 35.5 more than runner-up Post Falls.
Placing third were sophomore Mackenzee Donenfeld (100), who was 3-1 with two wins by first round pin, and sophomore Izzy Stark (126), who went 4-1 with three wins by pin. Rounding out the Lady Bulldogs' top performers were sophomore Vanessa Hood (132) and sophomore Zxyloh Johnson (152), who both went 3-2 and placed fourth in their respective weight classes.
The Lady Bulldogs' next tournament will be the Conrad Garner Invitational, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Bonners Ferry High.
