Girls thump Polson, but bested by Browning

The Columbia Falls girls basketball team split last week, dropping Polson at home 56-39 Thursday, but they lost to Browning 71-54 on the road Saturday.

Onni Lawrence led a balanced Columbia Falls attack with 12 points against the Lady Pirates. Taryn Borgen had 10, Rylee Sweeney 10. A total of nine players scored.

Against Browning, Borgen had 16, Lawrence 15. But the Kats had 18 turnovers and were just 2 for 17 behind the arc. On a defensive note, they had 12 steals.

Coach Jeremy Grilley said against Polson, they did a great job defensively which led to Columbia Falls points.

“We never allowed them to get settled,” he said.

Against Browning, the turnover bug struck the Kats and Browning, in turn, converted, scoring 19 on Wildkat turnovers in the first half, as the Kats were down 25 at the break.

The girls are now 5-6 overall, 3-2 in Northwest A.

A game against Ronan was snowed out Tuesday and has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at home.
