CREC hosting mixer to connect retirees, community opportunities

SANDPOINT — The Community Resource EnVision Center is inviting newly retired individuals and retirees looking to become more engaged in their community to a special retirement mixer later this month.

The mixer will be held Monday, Feb. 26, from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Hive, 207 N. First Ave.

The free event is a chance to meet like-minded individuals, learn about community organizations, and discover ways to make a difference in Sandpoint. Six area nonprofits will be features along with ways to make a positive difference in the community.

With retirees accounting for 45% of total hours volunteered nationwide, the impact they can have on a community is immense, CREC officials said. Research shows volunteering can longevity and overall health, more so than health than marriage, income, or education level.

Immediately following the mixer, participants are invited to stay for a Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce After Hours event, being held from 5 to 7 p.m. At the second event, details will be shared about future plans for the Community Resource EnVision Center. 

Among those plans include creation of a physical nonprofit and economic hub for Bonner County — a space dedicated to collaboration, innovation, and growth for the community, Katie Begalke, CREC executive director, said.

“Retirement is a wonderful time to reflect on how you can give back to your community while enriching your own life,” Begalke said. “Our retirement mixer is the perfect way to explore opportunities, make new connections, and find purpose in this exciting chapter of life.”
