PREP BASKETBALL: Sandpoint takes care of St. Maries for senior night win

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month, 3 weeks AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | February 6, 2025 9:30 PM

BOYS BASKETBALL

Sandpoint 63, St. Maries 51

SANDPOINT — Logan Roos' emphatic poster slam dunk to start the fourth quarter was the cherry on top.

The Sandpoint High junior recorded a game-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and recorded six rebounds, five assists and four blocks as the host Bulldogs downed the Lumberjacks by a 12-point margin in a non-league game held Thursday at Les Rogers Court.

"He's rounding into form — it was about the same thing last year around this time; he really put it together then and is doing the same this year," Sandpoint High head coach Brian Childs said of Roos. "He's shooting the ball well and playing with a lot of confidence. He also made some really nice passes tonight. We played a lot without Emerik (Jones) as a precaution and Logan stepped up and provided us some leadership."

Roos couldn't have done it without the help of his seniors, who all made big contributions in addition to being honored on the night for their efforts over the years. Seniors Emerik Jones and Wil Leisy, who hit two 3-pointers, had eight points apiece while Rece Wolff netted four for the Bulldogs, which led 30-20 at intermission and used a 22-13 third quarter scoring advantage to pull away.

Sophomore Logan Iverson also drained two 3-pointers and had all of his seven points in the fourth quarter while fellow sophomore Knox Williams registered five points and five assists and once again commanded the Sandpoint offense.

"I thought it was a good team win tonight," Childs said. "Everyone that played contributed and I was especially proud of our seniors. They came out and got us off to a really good start."

For St. Maries, junior Isaiah Gustaffe led the way with 18 points, including two 3-pointers, and seven rebounds.

Sandpoint (7-8, 2-2) will travel to Moscow on Saturday for an Inland Empire League matchup.
