Ramey rains from deep, Glacier boys complete crosstown sweep
JON ALLEN | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month AGO
Every kid dreams of scoring the buzzer-beater against their rival, and Reese Ramey lived it twice in one night.
Ramey banked in a 3-pointer to force overtime and hit another just before the end of the extra frame to give the Glacier girls a 58-55 basketball win over Flathead Thursday evening at Flathead High School.
The Wolfpack senior finished with 25 points — 12 coming in overtime — eight assists and 12 steals on the evening. She ended with six triples in all.
“I just had all the confidence in the world because the coaches wanted the ball in my hands,” Ramey said. “I took the energy they gave me and put it into that shot.”
Meanwhile, the Glacier boys used a big second half to pull away from Flathead 60-49 to secure a Glacier sweep on the evening.
“It was a team effort,” Wolfpack coach Evan Epperly said. “We had three guys in double figures. It feels good to have a team win like that.”
Ramey’s first heroic shot came after Sami Dalager put the Bravettes ahead 44-41, going 1 of 2 from the foul line.
Ramey took the inbound and dribbled down the clock before taking a step back three from straight away that caught glass before falling through, sending the Glacier fans in attendance into hysteria.
“I wish I could say I drew up a special play,” Glacier coach Amanda Cram said. “I mainly talked (in the timeout) about what to do defensively, ensuring that we were able to get a stop and push the ball in those final seconds.”
Flathead forced the Wolfpack to keep pace in overtime, as Dalager made back-to back shots in the paint to put Flathead up 50-47.
Ramey took over in the extra session, knocking down three triples — including a heat check to tie the game again after Ava Malmin banked in a 3-pointer to put Flathead up 55-52.
After a Bravettes travel gave the Wolfpack a chance to take the lead, Ramey took control again from just to the right of her regulation buzzer-beater. This one was nothing but net.
Glacier secured the win as Karley Allen came away with the inbound pass and time expired.
Allie Krueger reached double figures for the Wolfpack, adding 11 points. Cazz Rankosky had nine.
Grace Gall led the way for the Bravettes with 17 points — 11 coming before the half. Dalager added 12 and Mattie Thompson had nine, including seven in the fourth quarter.
“I’m really proud of our girls effort, they played really, really hard,” Flathead coach Kaylee Fox said. “Games like that you want to come out on top, but I am just proud of their whole intensity throughout the game.”

The boys game started out back and forth, with neither team able to take control early as Glacier led 10-9 after the first quarter.
Jordan Griffin quickly gave the Braves the lead in the second with a 5-0 mini run to make it 14-10. Griffin finished with nine points.
Cooper Pelc made it a new game just before the break as he knocked down a 3-pointer to tie it at 24. Pelc and Asher Knopik led the Wolfpack with 13 points apiece. Liam Ells added 12 and Easton Kauffman had nine.
Out of the half the teams traded threes, then the Wolfpack took control. Slate Burrington got to the basket for an and-one layup and in the aftermath Flathead’s Lyric Ersland picked up a technical foul. Burrington missed the free throw, but Pelc knocked down his pair to give Glacier a 33-27 lead.
“Emotions can be high in this game at times,” Epperly said about the stop-and-start second half that featured 42 free throw attempts combined. “We talked to our guys about keeping a level head and being us and doing what we do and not worrying about things we can’t control.”
Ersland — who had 35 in the first meeting — was held to 12 points.
Knopik scored on the next possession and the Wolfpack lead ballooned to eight at 35-27.
Korbin Eaton — who led Flathead with 13 points — tried to spark a Braves run with a triple and Griffin added a pair of free throws, cutting the deficit to 38-33, but Glacier finished the quarter on 11-3 run, including a pair of Burrington baskets in the final 10 seconds.
Knopik grew the lead to 56-36 after a and-one layup and flashed his muscles after taking the harm.
“It was just about giving me confidence to know the style of play I like to play with,” Knopik said of the gesture. “It gives me the edge I needed to play with confidence.”
