Browning surges in fourth against Polson

Browning was able to take advantage of some Polson foul trouble to surge in the fourth quarter for a 65-47 Northwestern A Conference victory on Saturday, Feb. 8.

It was a tight contest for three frames, mostly remaining a one-position game. Browning, however, went on a 21-6 run in the fourth quarter for the win, with its defense creating turnovers and Polson’s shooting going cold.

The Pirates also had Cody Haggard and Cason Graham foul out of the game.

Malakai Curley led Polson with 25 points, including 10-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Pirates had a 31-30 lead at halftime. Browning was able to take a three-point lead into the fourth quarter, which was when the team made its move.

Browning improved to 5-1 in conference play and 8-4 overall, while Polson fell to 4-4 in conference play and 7-7 overall.

Cody Haggard crossed the 100-point milestone for his varsity career with Polson, scoring seven points.


Whitefish battles past Polson

Whitefish got hot in the second quarter, outsourcing Polson by 12 points en route to a 58-48 Northwestern A Conference victory on Thursday, Feb. 6. Malakai Curley and Cason Graham had 16 points apiece to lead the Pirates.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 17-15 lead in the first quarter and then outscored Polson 24-12 in the second frame for the 41-27 halftime lead. The Pirates were able to battle back and climbed to within two possessions at 49-44 with 4:44 left in the game, but Whitefish continued to expand their lead to a 10-point spread.

Whitefish got their second conference win of the season and improved to 5-6 overall.

Ronan thumps Libby

Ronan didn’t have a double-digit scorer but had scorers in double-digits in a 57-28 Northwestern A Conference victory over Libby on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The Chiefs opened the game with a 19-5 run in the first quarter and led 27-14 at halftime. They tacked on four points to their lead in the third quarter and finished the game on an 18-6 run.

Tayen Edmo led Ronan with nine points and Chad Higgins added eight. In all, 10 players scored for the Chiefs.

Ronan improved to 5-3 in conference play and 9-5 overall, while Libby fell to 0-8 in conference play.

 

Ronan falls to Columbia Falls

Ronan fell to league-leading Columbia Falls in Northwestern A Conference play, 57-37, on Friday, Feb. 7. The Wildcats avenged a 15-point loss to the Chiefs earlier in the season.

Columbia Falls jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter and had a 36-18 halftime lead. Ronan outscored the Wildcats by three in the third quarter but was outscored 9-4 in the final quarter.

Tayen Edmo led the Chiefs with 10 points, while Kolby Finley and Chad Higgins had six apiece.

LaFrombois leads Mission past Eureka

Lex LaFrombois scored 22, and Mission fended off Eureka for its second Western 7B victory on Saturday, Feb. 6, by a score of 51-47. LaFrombois crossed the 800-point milestone for his varsity career and was one of three Bulldog players to hit double-digits.

Mission led 13-8 after one quarter and went into halftime with a 25-22 lead. The second half was an even battle, with the Bulldogs holding on for the win.

Mission improved to 2-5 in league play and 4-11 overall, while Eureka fell to 5-7.

Jason Leishman scored 16 for the Bulldogs, while Vinny Shepard added 10.

Florence gets past Arlee

Florence offense was hot, and it was needed against a high-scoring Arlee team. The Warriors' slow first half proved to be the difference maker in a 74-62 Western 6B league matchup on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Arlee’s Josh Horn was the game’s highest scorer with 20 points, while Aiden Swab added 17.

Florence led 18-9 after one quarter and 37-21 at halftime. The Falcons improved to 7-1 in league play and 12-4 overall, while Arlee fell to 11-5 for the year and 3-5 in league play.

Damian Marceau added eight points.

On Thursday, Loyola remained undefeated in league play, defeating the Warriors 72-34.

Philipsburg defeats Charlo

Charlo’s slow start spelled the difference in a 58-50 Western 13C loss on Thursday, Feb. 6. Ecko Edwards led the Vikings with 15 points while Kenyan DuMont added 15 and Karsen Cox scored 12 points.

Trailing 25-10 after the first half, Charlo was outscored 24-8 in the third quarter. The Vikings did, however, come alive in the fourth quarter, outsourcing the Prospectors 32-9.

After Charlo’s 56-53 loss against Valley Christian on Friday, the Vikings are now 3-13 overall and 1-9 in league play.

Two Eagle drops matchup to Drummond

Two Eagle couldn’t overcome big surges by Drummond in the first and third quarters in a 71-62 Western 13C loss on Friday, Feb. 7.

Thomas Addison led the Eagles with 26 points, while Talon Addison had 15.

Drummond led 24-12 in the first quarter, but Two Eagle battled back and only trailed 32-30. The Trojans outscored the Eagles by 11 in the third quarter and were able to cruise to victory.

Kadin Graveley scored 18, while Michael Goettle notched 11.

Two Eagle fell to 8-8 on the season, including 4-5 in league play.

At Pablo

Two Eagle pushes past Hot Springs

Two Eagle used a 16-8 run to take command in the second quarter en route to a 63-57 victory in Western 13C play in Thursday, Feb. 6. Talon Addison and Thomas Addison led the Eagles with 17 points apiece.

Two Eagle trailed by three points in the first quarter but went into halftime with a 30-25 lead. The Eagles then opened the second half outscoring the Savage Heat 20-12.

Jayvaian Burke added nine points to the Eagles’ efforts.
