MOSES LAKE – District playoff action for boys and girls basketball across the Basin is in full swing. Read along for a breakdown of where local teams finished in their league standings, as well as a recap of recent district playoff games.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline
Boys (20-1)
ACH opened the Northeast 1B league tournament with an 89-18 win over Selkirk on Feb. 4, then advanced to defeat Inchelium 70-57 in the tournament semifinals on Saturday. With the win, the Warriors reached the tournament semifinals where they’ll face off against Wellpinit on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Both teams have already punched their ticket to the district tournament, where the top six teams from the league tournament will play teams from the Southeast 1B league.
Girls (12-10)
After finishing third in the Northeast 1B South league standings and defeating Cusick 62-13 in the opening, loser-out round of the Northeast 1B league tournament, the Warriors locked down a spot in the district tournament with a 48-34 win over Curlew on Feb. 5. After falling 48-38 to Wellpinit in the tournament semifinals, ACH played Northport on Thursday night at Deer Park High School, but scores were not available in time for press deadline. The Warriors play again Saturday against either Curlew or Inchelium.
Ephrata
Boys (6-16)
Ephrata finished the regular season in seventh place of the Central Washington Athletic Conference league standings, traveling to play Toppenish in the play-in round of the CWAC district tournament. The Tigers fell in a closely contested 46-43 game Tuesday night, closing out their season.
Girls (0-21)
The Tigers did not qualify for the CWAC district tournament, with their season ending with a loss to Toppenish on Feb. 7.
LRS
Boys (8-13)
The Broncos took fifth in the Northeast 2B South standings during the regular season, and opened the district tournament with a 55-47 win over Davenport on Monday. LRS took on Freeman on Thursday in the quarterfinals, but scores were not available in time for press deadline.
Girls (13-7)
LRS was the runner-up in the Northeast 2B South standings, giving the Broncos a first-round bye in the district tournament. They took on Davenport on Thursday night at West Valley (Spokane) High School, but scores were not available in time for press deadline. The winner goes on to the semifinals, while the loser drops into the consolation bracket.
Moses Lake
Boys (11-9)
Even after a loss to Davis on Saturday, Moses Lake locked up a third-place finish in the Columbia Basin Big 9 standings with a 78-71 win on the road against Eastmont on Feb. 7. Moses Lake traveled to Sunnyside on Thursday, but scores were not available in time for press deadline. The Big 9 district tournament begins Tuesday, when the Mavericks will host either Eisenhower of Eastmont in a loser-out game.
Girls (7-12)
Moses Lake traveled to Sunnyside for the regular season finale Thursday, but scores were not available in time for press deadline. Regardless of the outcome of Thursday’s game, the Mavericks will travel to either Eastmont or Eisenhower on Tuesday for the first round of the Big 9 district tournament.
MLCA/CCS
Boys (17-2)
The Lions won the Central Washington B league for the fourth consecutive season, posting an 11-0 record in league games this winter. MLCA/CCS earned a double bye in the district tournament and will play the winner of Friday’s game between Soap Lake and Wilson Creek on Monday.
Girls (13-8)
MLCA/CCS took fourth in the CW1B regular season standings, and defeated Cascade Christian 48-18 in the first round of the district tournament at home Tuesday. The Lions took on Soap Lake on Thursday night, but scores were not available in time for press deadline.
Othello
Boys (0-20)
The Huskies did not qualify for the CWAC district tournament, ending the season with a loss against East Valley (Yakima) on Feb. 7.
Girls (7-14)
Othello took seventh in the CWAC league standings, setting up a loser-out matchup against East Valley (Yakima). The Huskies lost to the Red Devils 39-37, ending their season Wednesday.
Quincy
Boys (7-15)
After finishing eighth in the CWAC league standings, the Jackrabbits took on East Valley (Yakima) in the opening round of the district tournament Tuesday. The Red Devils won the game 79-58, ending Quincy’s season.
Girls (4-18)
Quincy took eighth in the CWAC league standings this season, falling to Toppenish 73-24 on Wednesday in the play-in round of the CWAC district tournament.
Royal
Boys (21-1)
The Knights were tied with Zillah for the top spot in the South Central Athletic Conference league standings this winter, as each team posted 15-1 records in league with their only losses coming against one another. Royal defeated Wahluke 74-40 in the opening round of the SCAC district tournament Tuesday and hosts Cashmere in the semifinals Friday. The winner of that game advances to the district finals, and punches their ticket to the state tournament.
Girls (11-10)
The Knights, who finished in fifth place of the SCAC league standings, opened the district tournament Thursday night on the road against Cashmere. The winner of that game advances to play wither Naches Valley or Cascade (Leavenworth) on Saturday, while the loser drops into the consolation bracket.
Soap Lake
Boys (9-9)
Soap Lake, the No. 4 seed in the CW1B district tournament, earned a first-round bye at districts and takes on No. 5 Wilson Creek on Friday at 6 p.m. The winner of the loser-out matchup advances to play top-seeded MLCA/CCS Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Girls (7-10)
The Eagles, who took fifth in the league standings, played MLCA/CCS in a loser-out matchup Thursday, but scores were not available in time for press deadline. The winner will take on Waterville-Mansfield on Saturday.
Wahluke
Boys (9-14)
The Warriors finished the regular season in seventh place of the SCAC league standings setting up a matchup against Royal in the opening round of the 1A District 5 tournament, where the Warriors fell 74-40. Wahluke travels to Wapato on Friday at 6 p.m. in a loser-out matchup.
Girls (0-21)
Wahluke did not qualify for the 1A District 5 tournament, as their season came to a close with a 41-33 loss against College Place on Feb. 4.
Warden
Boys (5-16)
After defeating Goldendale 64-47 on Feb. 3, the Cougars saw their season come to a close with a 49-47 loss to Kittitas on Feb. 5 in the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference league tournament.
Girls (6-16)
The Cougars defeated Highland 69-12 on Feb. 4 and White Swan 53-30 on Feb. 6 to open up the EWAC league tournament, but fell to Kittitas 43-41 in a winner-to-district game Saturday.
Wilson Creek
Boys (10-12)
The Devils defeated Entiat 45-43 in the opening round of the CW1B district tournament on Wednesday, advancing to play Soap Lake on Friday at Waterville-Mansfield. The winner of that game will play MLCA/CCS on Monday.
Girls (12-7)
Wilson Creek, who finished in third place of the CW1B league standings, earned a first-round bye in the district tournament and played Entiat on Thursday night, but scores were not available in time for press deadline.

Moses Lake boys qualify eight, girls send 11 to Mat Classic
MOSES LAKE -- Nineteen total Mavericks qualified to wrestle at the upcoming Mat Classic, with the Moses Lake girls team qualifying 11 wrestlers and the boys team sending eight wrestlers to the Tacoma Dome. The Moses Lake boys took second at districts, scoring 214.5 points at the tournament. Sunnyside won the district tournament with 278.5 points.

MOSES LAKE – District tournaments were held across the state on Friday and Saturday, where boys and girls wrestlers punched their tickets into next week’s Mat Classic in Tacoma.

Moses Lake enters districts with confidence as regular season fades
MOSES LAKE – The Mavericks closed out the regular season with a trip to Sunnyside on Thursday night, coming out on top of a closely contested game with a 67-66 win over the Grizzlies. “They’ve been playing better, scoring more,” Head Coach Craig Groth said. “We’ve been doing a little bit better job on defense in certain situations and winning games leading up to that. Even games we haven’t won, we’ve been in really close games. Our confidence is really good right now, we felt great going into the game.”
