Aubrey Knowles has been selected as a Sandpoint Elks Lodge student of the month for January in Lake Pend Oreille School District.

To be selected as an Elks student of the month, students must meet guidelines for character, citizenship, service, scholarship and leadership.

The Elks actively seek to reward youth through many different programs including scholarship awards, Hoop Shoot tournaments, dictionary donations to third graders, drug awareness programs, and many other activities and programs.

Sandpoint Elks Lodge awards thousands of dollars in scholarships and local students also received additional money in state and national Elk scholarships. The Elks are the third-largest awarder of scholarships in the county and several students have received large scholarships from the state and national level of Elks.

A senior at Sandpoint High School, Knowles has a 4.0 unweighted GPA and 4.36 weighted GPA, ranking eighth in her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society with nearly 100 hour of volunteer hours since joining her sophomore year.

Outside of the classroom, Aubrey plays on both the basketball and tennis teams for Sandpoint High School. Her passion is tennis, during her junior season last spring she was the junior captain helping to lead the girls' team to their first Idaho state title in school history. She and her double's partner were selected to the Idaho all-state team after placing second in the state doubles championship match. Individually, Knowles was also selected to receive the team scholar-athlete award. Following high school, Aubrey hopes to study civil engineering at Gonzaga University.
