QUINCY — The La Michoacana Paleteria makes ice cream and frozen treats that are so popular its owners are expanding into a much bigger space.
Owner Heriberto Birrueta said demand has grown — a lot. As a result, they’ve outgrown their current location at 6 D St. SE.
“We need a bigger place,” he said.
The new building is about 17,000 square feet, said Quincy Public Works Director Carl Worley. It will have space to manufacture its ice cream bars and some tenant space. Birrueta said the tenant space will be left unfinished until next year.
The goal is to be open at the new location by early summer, Birrueta said, although there’s not a firm timeline for the completion of construction.
“We’re going to try and be ready by May or June,” he said.
