The Arlee Warriors remained undefeated, pushing past Class C foe Hot Springs 58-51 on Saturday, Jan. 4.

"We have started off 6–0, and that’s pretty awesome," Arlee Head Coach Jason Maki said. "We have really played very good defense. Our kids work very hard and fly around. We have struggled on the offensive end, but we’ve done enough to win those games."

Josh Horn led all scorers with 20 points for Arlee, while Darius Tewawina had 18 points. The game was tied 10-10 after one quarter of play, but the Warriors outscored the Savage Heat 21-15 in the second quarter for a 31-25 lead and fended off Hot Springs in the second half.

"I’ve been very impressed with our guys, especially how coachable (they are) and how hard they work," Maki said. "They have done a great job on the defensive end and have a strong will to win. They have been awesome to coach every day."

Weston Slonaker led Hot Springs with 18 points, while Dainian Marceau scored eight points for Arlee, while Aiden Swab added seven.

Hot Springs fell to 3-5 on the season.

"Our league is pretty much like we thought it would be," Maki said. "Loyola is very good, and then all the rest of us have our moments. We won our first league game against Deer Lodge, but it was a struggle, and last year, they were near the bottom.”

“It’s going to be a wild and crazy league,” he predicts. “Florence seems big and tough. Anaconda hasn’t gotten it going yet, but Coach Norris is a good coach, and I’m sure they will improve a ton."
