Whitefish had several placers at the Western Boys Invitational in Ronan over the weekend.

"We got a great amount of work in over the Christmas break," Whitefish Head Coach Tom Gualtier said. "I was able to run practices for most days."

Landree Aurand was first in the 144-pound bracket, scoring two pins, a major decision, and an 8-4 victory over Stevensville’s Todd Whitescarver in the championship bout.

"At the Ronan tournament, we saw four semifinalists," Gualtier said. "That led to two champs and two others placing. I believe this gives a great look for divisionals and state, with it being a mainly Class A tournament. We know what we need to improve to beat those kids we had close losses to."

At 150 pounds, Carter Olson was sixth after winning his first three matches via pin and reaching the quarterfinals. Teammate Logan Heyne was sixth in the 157-pound bracket, winning via pin in his first two matches to reach the quarterfinals where he defeated Ronan’s Jairyn Krause 12-6.

At the girls invite, Taylor Dorvall won the 130-pound bracket, notching four falls, including a pin in 3:52 over Ronan’s Destiny Finley in the first-place match.

"Taylor Dorvall went into this tournament and won it beating girls she lost to in the past," Gualtier said. "Winning all matches while earning bonus points. I’m pretty positive it’s her first time winning a whole tournament! She was also the only girl on the team and took 17th out of 25 schools all by herself."
