Conway Leroy Ellers, “Pete,” was born Oct. 23, 1937, to Henry Edward Ellers and Doris Lorraine (Ray) Ellers in Akron, Ohio. He grew up there and graduated from Kenmore High School. Following his education, he was drafted into the United States Army and stationed in Japan as military police during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1965 and returned to Akron, Ohio.

Shortly after his return, he met Judy Blackert, and the couple was united in marriage in 1966. The couple made their home in Barberton, Ohio, had a decade in Southern California for work and in 1978, they moved to Idaho, making their home in Dalton Gardens. Pete worked various jobs as a truck driver — hauling fuel, cement and grocery freight. He retired in 2002 at the age of 65. In retirement, he served as a volunteer driver for veterans needing transportation to and from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Spokane, Wash. He also received awards of excellence as a blood donor. In 2017, Pete’s health began to decline. During his illness, Pete received unwavering support from the veteran community, whose kindness and dedication comforted his family. They extend their deepest gratitude to the Spokane Veterans' Organization and all who gave their time, care and compassion during this difficult time. On Jan. 4, 2025, he died peacefully at home at the age of 87 years.

Pete was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, camping and adventures across the country to visit family. He also enjoyed working on cars and was a good mechanic and repairman. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.
Pete is lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy; his children, Mark (and Cindy) Ellers, Jill (and Bruce) Chaskin, Jodie (and Jim) Irwin, Melisa Johnson, Kimberly (and Brian) Seymour, Shauna (and Jeff) Runge and Nicole Chrysler, and his 16 cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Doris, and brother Robert Ellers.

Blessed and eternal be the memory of Conway “Pete” Ellers.
