Since losing the first game of the 2024-25 season, the Red Devils, who are big (mass) and quick (velocity) have reeled off five straight wins, the latest a 74-53 home win over the Plains Horsemen this past Friday night in Noxon. 

Also on the agenda Friday in Noxon was a match between the Lady Devils and the Trotters from Plains, with the Plains girls coming away with a 48-32 win. 

In the boys contest, 6-5 forward Shane Murray, mass with velocity, erupted for 11 first quarter points as he dominated the paint as Noxon constructed a 23-11 lead after one quarter of play. 

Plains bounced back in the second quarter behind Zayden Allen’s seven points (including a long three), outscoring Noxon 12-11 to make it 34-23 at the half. 

Noxon spread the scoring around in the third quarter, with Cameron Blair tossing in even points and teammate Shane Hatchel’s six as they stretched their lead by outscoring Plains 19-18 to give the Red Devils a 53-39 lead heading into the final quarter. 

Noxon then cashed in on Blair’s eight points, including a pair of treys, to secure their fifth win of the year. 

Blair, who had four threes for the game, finished as the game’s leading scorer with 24 points, one better than Murray who had 23.  Hatchel chipped in 14 points for Noxon. 

Allen’s 25 points were a game-high for Plains, who also got 14 from senior guard Darren Standeford. 

In the girls' game, Plains displayed some size and speed of their own, paced by sophomore forward Ava Lawyer, who had seven first quarter points to help propel the Trotters to an 11-8 lead after the first eight minutes of play. 

The Trotters’ defense held Noxon to six points in the second quarter, while the offense, behind Katelyn Subatch’s five points scored 11, boosting the Plains lead to 22-14. 

Plains upped their lead in the third quarter as Mila Rivinius contributed seven points and Aubree Butcher had six to increase the Trotters’ lead to 41-24, despite eight points from Noxon’s Seanna Richter. 

Lawyer paced Plains scoring with 14 points, while Richter led the Lady Devils also with 14 points. 

The win boosted Plains to 5-2 overall on the year, while the 13C conference Lady Devils dropped to 1-4 this season. 

Next up for Noxon is a home game this Thursday (Jan 16) vs Clark Fork, Idaho, then consecutive road games Friday against Two Eagle River in Pablo and a Saturday encounter with Charlo. 

Plains was home this past Saturday against Darby, then a Thursday game at Superior and a conference game against Sanders County rival Thompson Falls on Saturday (Jan 18).
