Public being surveyed on Hanford cleanup

The Hanford Site, contaminated with around 70 tons of plutonium, is still in the clean-up process. The three agencies behind the cleanup, the Washington Department of Ecology, U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. The Environmental Protection Agency has put out a survey to gauge public feedback regarding the work done so far.

HANFORD – The Washington Department of Ecology, U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a public involvement survey to collect the community's feedback on the Hanford Site cleanup.
The Hanford Site produced more than 70 tons of plutonium between World War II and the Cold War. When the production of plutonium ceased in 1989, it became a goal to clean up the chemical and radioactive waste left behind. The Department of Energy is responsible for Hanford and the cleanup, while both Ecology and EPA regulate the cleanup.
The survey will help the three agencies evaluate the public perception towards the cleanup process so far. The survey is open from Jan. 13 to Feb. 12 in both English and Spanish.
