Public being surveyed on Hanford cleanup
STAFF REPORT | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 5 months, 3 weeks AGO
HANFORD – The Washington Department of Ecology, U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a public involvement survey to collect the community's feedback on the Hanford Site cleanup.
The Hanford Site produced more than 70 tons of plutonium between World War II and the Cold War. When the production of plutonium ceased in 1989, it became a goal to clean up the chemical and radioactive waste left behind. The Department of Energy is responsible for Hanford and the cleanup, while both Ecology and EPA regulate the cleanup.
The survey will help the three agencies evaluate the public perception towards the cleanup process so far. The survey is open from Jan. 13 to Feb. 12 in both English and Spanish. The results of the survey will be shared on social media and the Department of Ecology’s website. For those interested in learning more visit: bit.ly/HanfordSiteSurvey.
