Ceramist Adrian Arleo exhibit coming to the Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery

The work of Missoula-based artist and ceramic sculptor Adrian Arleo will be on exhibit at the Wanda Hollensteiner Art Gallery Jan. 28 through March 27. 

The public is invited to attend an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the gallery,777 Grandview Dr., Kalispell. 

Arleo studied art and anthropology at Pitzer College and earned her Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from Rhode Island School of Design in 1986. She went on to serve as Artist in Residence at Oregon College of Art and Craft from 1986-87 and at Sitka Center For Art and Ecology from 1987-88. In 2012, she was honored with an invitation to the Jordan Schnitzer Printmaking Residency. 

Her work is exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally, and is included in a wide range of public and private collections.  Arleo’s artist achievements have earned her recognition from the Virginia A. Groot Foundation in 1991 and 1992, as well as a Montana Arts Council Individual Fellowship in 1995. Her work has been widely published in books, magazines and online platforms. In addition, Arleo is a frequent workshop instructor, offering courses on figurative ceramic sculpture around the globe. 

Arleo describes her work as a combination of “human, animal and natural imagery to create a kind of emotional and poetic power.” She explained that her focus on the importance of the interconnection between the human and non-human realms in her work. 

“[My] work frequently references mythology and archetypes in addressing our vulnerability amid changing personal, environmental and political realities. By focusing on older, more mysterious ways of seeing the world, edges of consciousness and deeper levels of awareness suggest themselves.”  

The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays.
