Craig David Kuzma, 51, June 12, 1973 — Jan. 6, 2025, passed away at his home in Chewelah, Washington.

Born on June 12, 1973, Craig grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois and embraced a life of adventure and a love of the outdoors. An active snowboarder, he found joy in the mountains and worked at the ski resort, 49 Degrees North in Chewelah. He lived most of his adult life in Whitefish and was a consistent competitor at The Big Mountain Spring pond-skimming event. He was also very proud of the many skateboard parks that he helped build throughout the West, and his passion for active sports and the natural beauty of the outdoors was a defining aspect of his life.

Craig's journeys took him across the country, leaving behind a legacy of friendships in places such as Chicago; Fort Collins, Colorado; Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Telluride, Colorado; Bellingham, Washington; Whitefish, and Chewelah. Those who knew him remember Craig as a kind and gentle soul who brought warmth to everyone he met.

In addition to his many adventures, Craig faced a decade-long struggle with opioid addiction. Addiction is a relentless disease that affects countless lives, and Craig's passing serves as a heartbreaking reminder of its devastating impact.

He is survived by his parents, James and Diane Kuzma of Evanston, Illinois; his brother, Paul Kuzma and his wife, Monica; nieces, Lena and Maeve and nephew, Henry of Chicago. There will be a private family service in Spring Valley, Illinois.

If you wish to honor Craig's memory, please know that he was an active participant with the Nate Chute Foundation, based in Whitefish, which promotes mental wellness throughout Northwest Montana. www.natechutefoundation.org

Craig's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends across the country. May his spirit continue to inspire those who knew him to cherish life's beauty and support one another through its challenges.
