The Glacier Hockey Association 10U girls team traveled to Golden, British Columbia, this weekend for a tournament with Cranbrook and Golden and came back with a 3-1-0 record.

With a roster consisting of only nine available skaters and a goalie, the Whitefish team had a very short bench and players had to work harder each period.

Coaches Lini Reading, Aly Wells and Sarah McCormick were impressed with the girls ability to play four hard games within just 25 hours and with only nine skaters.

“Cranbrook took us to task in the first game -- caught us by surprise with their strong skating and shooting,” said Reading. “Despite firing an equal number of shots, that game ended in a 1-4 loss.”

GHA faced Golden next and tallied a 6-4 win. Early Sunday morning the girls faced off against the same Cranbrook team and improved their game, winning 8-1. They finished the day with a 5-1 win over Golden.

Reading said Juliet Wainwright had a great weekend in goal and the players leading in goals and assists for GHA were, in order: Fynlee Tveidt, Rowan Berney, Brooke Kalgren, Rooney Weideman, Kennedy Highland, Saylor Hindman and Taylor Kalgren.

Paige Isakson and Ava Maynard played their first full ice games and made notable improvements in their play.

The female EKL Banner championship weekend will be held at the Woodland Ice Rink on Feb. 22 and 23.
