Pend Oreille Pedalers project seeks grant funding
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 1 day, 19 hours AGO
Pend Oreille Pedalers, a local nonprofit trail organization, is applying for a Recreational Trails Program grant to support critical maintenance of the Little Sand Creek Watershed Trail network. Located in Sandpoint’s municipal watershed, the 15-mile trail system serves over 300 daily users during peak seasons, including mountain bikers, hikers, runners, huckleberry pickers, and families.
The proposed project will address trail erosion, improve drainage, manage vegetation, and update signage to enhance safety, accessibility, and sustainability. The total project cost is $91,000, with $25,000 provided by POP through matching funds from local fundraising, the city of Sandpoint’s $10,000 annual maintenance contract, and the Adopt a Trail Program, which engages local businesses as sponsors.
This project is essential to preserving the trails’ role as a premier outdoor recreation resource while protecting the watershed’s environmental integrity. Public input is welcome. For more information or to share your comments, please contact Pend Oreille Pedalers at emily@pendoreillepedalers.org.
