COEUR d'ALENE — Uncovering dark family secrets, impromptu informercials and breaking out into song are all part of the unpredictable antics of the Blue Room Improv players.

"I really love how they can be so creative and they can bring in memories from past shows, memories everyone shared together, and bring the audience into those," team manager and Lake City High School junior Rian Bennett said during the Jan. 10 rehearsal. "It's always so cool to see things click inside of them and the audience."

Troupe de Wolfe's Blue Room Improv is Lake City High School's improv team, dedicated to bringing joy to audiences while acting out preposterous and laughter-inducing storylines on the spot. About 14 juniors and seniors are active with the current team.

The team holds monthly shows. The January show featuring five players will be at 7 tonight in room B-14 at the high school. Admission is $2 per person.

"We're really excited," Rian said. "We just figured out who's going to be the emcee."

As someone who often sees the team at work, Rian said improv allows for multiple perspectives.

"With traditional shows, it's so predictable, but with improv, anything's up for grabs," she said. "You can be so creative with it. It's very humorous. It makes everyone laugh."

Rebekah Selby, a senior, has been a Blue Room team member her entire four years at Lake City.

"Improv creates a place for me to be silly and just be myself," she said. "My senior project is actually on improv and for my senior paper I did an essay about how improv improves mental health. The environment it creates improves creativity and comfortability and confidence. It just brought me back around to how much I love improv and how it helps me be a better person."

She said she hopes the audience enjoys everything about tonight's show, from the games and actors to the emcee.

"I hope they love it," Rebekah said. "I just hope they have a good time and enjoy it."

Lake City High School is at 6101 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d'Alene.
