MOSES LAKE — An investigation is pending in the case of a Moses Lake man who allegedly crossed the center line, hit another car and triggered a four-car collision about six miles southwest of East Wenatchee on Saturday afternoon.

Karl Sundquist, 53, was driving west on State Route 28 at about 5 p.m. Saturday when he crossed the center line and ran head-on into a car driven by Jose Nevarez Vela, 56, Quincy, according to a memo from the Washington State Patrol. Sundquist then hit a car driven by Jacinto Delgado Marchan, 52, Ephrata.

Alcohol or drugs was a factor in the accident, the WSP memo said.

A car driven by Jay Paxton, 38, East Wenatchee, had swerved to avoid Sundquist but was hit by Navarez Vela’s car.

Sundquist’s car ended up in a ditch on the westbound shoulder, the press memo said, while Navarez Vela’s car came to rest in the ditch on the eastbound shoulder. Delgado Marchan’s car stopped in the westbound lane, with Paxton’s car coming to rest on the eastbound shoulder.

Sundquist was transported to Confluence Health-Central Washington Hospital. Araceli Olalde Medina, 50, Quincy, a passenger in Nevarez Vela’s vehicle, also was transported to CWH. Three juveniles and a 27-year-old woman were transported to CWH as a precaution, the WSP memo said.
