MOSES LAKE — Kelsey Galvan, 20, of Moses Lake was arrested Sunday after reportedly threatening her parents with a knife and driving away intoxicated with her child unsecured in the vehicle.
At around 3 a.m., Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Firouzi Drive in the Westshore area outside Moses Lake, according to a release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
A 911 caller said their daughter, Galvan, had left her 9-month-old with them to babysit. After being gone most of the night, Galvan returned to pick up the child. The parents said they believed Galvan was under the influence and refused to hand over the infant. In response, Galvan allegedly kicked and bit her mother, then armed herself with a knife and threatened to stab her parents. Her parents disarmed her and told authorities she then threatened to kill them. She then walked from the home carrying her son in the car seat.
Galvan drove away when deputies arrived at the scene, according to the statement, but failed to secure the car seat inside the vehicle. Galvan destroyed a neighbor’s mailbox while driving away at high speed, according to the GCSO statement.
Deputies learned the infant was unsecured in the car and stopped chasing her as she drove south on Westshore Drive, the statement said. The deputies instead followed her from a distance.
Galvan stopped the car near Hansen Road and Westshore Drive where deputies took her into custody. The baby was not harmed.
Galvan was then lodged into the Grant County jail for investigation of two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of felony harassment – threats to kill, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of hit-and-run with property damage. Child Protective Services is also investigating the incident, according to the release.
