Pend Oreille Players Association is holding auditions for "The Wizard of Oz".

The theater company is looking for all ages to audition for POPA's annual musical.

Auditions will be held at the Pend Oreille Playhouse, 236 S. Union Ave., in Newport at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, and at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27. Those interested only need to come to one of the auditions. Callbacks, if needed, will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Those auditioning should prepare a song, not from "The Wizard of Oz" that is approximately one minute long. While POPA would prefer an online karaoke accompaniment, it's not required. Each person will sing their prepared song first, then do some easy dance moves next. POPA may then have individuals read parts from the script. All youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian for the first part of auditions.

For more info and a list of roles, please check POPA's "Wizard of Oz" event page on Facebook. The audition form is available to download and print from POPA's website, on the resources page, at pendoreilleplayers.com/theatre-resources

If cast, rehearsals will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Feb. 3. Rehearsals will run later in the evening two weeks before the show opens. Performances will be held at 7 p.m., May 2; 7 p.m., May 3; 3 p.m., May 4; 7 p.m., May 9; 7 p.m., May 10; and 3 p.m., May 11.

Those cast must be present at all performances and all tech/dress rehearsals, with required rehearsals set for April 28 through May 1.

Since 2004, Pend Oreille Players Association has produced plays, musicals, radio-style readers' theatre, concerts, and variety shows; developed an international One Act Play Festival for unpublished one-act plays and began a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors and a summer Theatre Day Camp for children.

POPA is made up entirely of volunteers from the surrounding area, who have a love for the performing arts. These diverse people band together for weeks of intense rehearsal to teach and learn all aspects of the performing arts and entertain the community.

Pend Oreille Players Association’s purpose has been to nurture, inspire, educate, and entertain the people of the Pend Oreille Valley by providing opportunities to experience all aspects of the performing arts.
