North Idaho College women’s basketball player Esmeralda Galindo was selected as the Week 9 NJCAA National Player of the Week.
Galindo, who hails from Davis High of Yakima, which Sandpoint High faced in football this past season, averaged 35.5 points per game while shooting 67.5% from the field and 85.7% from beyond the arc last week.
Galindo had 40 points (16-20 FG), including four 3-pointers, and came away with four rebounds and three steals in a 72-57 win on Jan. 16 over Snow College, where 2024 Bonners Ferry High graduate Markynn Pluid plays. On Jan. 18, Galindo scored 31 points (11-20 FG), including two 3-pointers, and had four rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 65-61 win over Utah State Eastern.
“Esme put together quite a weekend for us at Snow College and Utah State Eastern,” NIC Head Women’s Basketball Coach Nate Covill said. “Not only did she put up big numbers scoring, but she did it while maintaining an incredible shooting percentage. It is no surprise to us, as Esme spends a great deal of time in the gym working on her craft.”
The Lady Cards (11-8, 3-2) play again at home at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 against Utah State Eastern at Christianson Gymnasium. Their next game is Jan. 23 at Colorado Northwestern Community College.
