PREP WRESTLING: Therrien finishes fifth at Othello Lady Huskies Tournament
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 weeks, 1 day AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 30, 2025 1:00 AM
OTHELLO, Wash. — Bonners Ferry's Neveah Therrien (110) lead all area wrestlers, placing fifth out of 40 competitors in her respective bracket at the Othello Lady Huskies Tournament held this past Friday and Saturday at Othello High.
Therrien, a junior, won her first match by way of a first round pin, her second by a narrow 14-12 decision, and by a pin in the third round in the quarterfinals to clinch the semifinals. After falling in the semis and in one consolation bout, she entered the fifth-place match and defeated her opponent by pin in the second round.
Senior Sofia Brown (135) placed sixth for the Lady Badgers, which finished 37th out of 59 teams with 46 points. Brown, similar to Therrien, won her first match by pin, her second by a 13-8 decision, and then won by first round pin again in the quarterfinals to clinch the semis. After loss by pin in the semis, Brown had to chalk up some medical forfeits to finish out day two.
Aubree Graves (120) went 2-2 with two pins and Kylie Calderone (100) won a consolation match by a 12-0 major decision to round out the Badgers' top performances.
The tournament had roughly 420 girls wrestlers this year and continues to be one of the most attended girls wrestling tournament's in the state of Washington.
Bonners Ferry faced Kellogg yesterday after deadline — results from that match will be reported in next week's Herald. The Lady Badgers will look towards the North Idaho Rumble hosted by Coeur d'Alene High this Friday and Saturday.
