A prolific writer, an avid reader, a teacher of children and a dabbler in magical realms, Courtney Davis pens novels she would enjoy reading.

"My favorite books have always had at least a touch of romance to them," Davis, of Coeur d'Alene, told The Press in a Jan. 22 email. "I have always been drawn to books with supernatural elements as well, so many of my books have both of these elements in them. I just think the world is more interesting with magic and love is its own special kind of magic."

An author of 15 books with such titles as "A Shadow Among the Stars" and "Soul Sacrifice," Davis will release her newest tale Tuesday via 5 Prince Publishing and Books LLC: "Demons and Tea Leaves."

"I came up with the idea of a woman accidentally summoning a demon. From there I expanded the idea," Davis explained. "What would the circumstances be that she'd accidentally perform a spell, and what then would the demon do?"

This particular story is for readers of sweet romances and fans of the paranormal, Davis said.

"If you enjoy the movie 'Practical Magic' and the show 'Charmed,' I think you'll enjoy 'Demons and Tea Leaves,'" she said.

An educator for 10 years, Davis is a longtime North Idahoan. She grew up in Bonners Ferry, where she graduated from high school, then went to North Idaho College for an associate degree and attended the University of Idaho, where she earned a master's degree in elementary education.

"I love so many things about living here, aside from the cold dark winters," she said.

Davis has been writing since she was a teenager. The first story she published was started when she was 18. She said she always knew she wanted to write.

"I was a voracious reader growing up and felt like I could do just as good as many of the books I enjoyed, so I gave it a shot," she said. "I published quite a few eBooks in my 20s then took a break from writing for a bit as I had my two boys and came back to it in 2020."

She said her favorite thing about writing is exploring a story that comes into her head as a tiny idea and expanding that idea into a full story for others to enjoy.

"Any time someone reads one of my books, I hope that it gives them a momentary escape from reality and a trip through a fantastically entertaining story," Davis said.

Davis will be signing books at It's a Love Story bookstore, 8927 N. Hess St. Suite A, Hayden, at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 21. Her works can be found locally at the Well-Read Moose, It's a Love Story, Kindred Bookstore and the Coeur d'Alene Public Library, as well as on amazon.com.

Vikings, Timberwolves give back to community through charitable drives

The first school week back from winter break is annually dedicated to practicing cheers, decorating hallways and preparing for the Coeur d'Alene-Lake City high school Fight for the Fish spirit competition and basketball games. When the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily upended the tradition in 2020 and 2021, the Timberwolves and the Vikings came together to start a new tradition of kindness, collaboration and community service: All for Awl. "It's awesome," Coeur d'Alene High School ASB President Payton Conn said Wednesday.
