Losing streaks continue for Libby hoops teams

The Libby Loggers boys and girls basketball teams each lost their seventh straight games Tuesday against Whitefish in Northwest A action.

Tuesday, the boys played at Whitefish and lost 84-54. The Bulldogs led 13-12 after one quarter before outscoring the Loggers 50-25 in the second and third quarters.

Tristan Andersen, Bransen Holzer and James Woody led the Loggers (3-8, 0-5) with 14 points each.

Carson Gulick and Will Sisson each hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points apiece for Whitefish. 

The Bulldogs (4-5, 1-3) made 16 shots from behind the arc. 

Saturday, the Polson Pirates pulled away in the third quarter on the way to a 66-50 win. Polson led 23-20 at the half before outscoring the Loggers 20-9 in the third.

Tristan Andersen led three Libby players in double figures with 16 points. Holzer was next with 11 points and Isaac Lamere added 10.

Cason Graham scored 21 points and Malakai Curley had 20 for Polson.

In a game at Columbia Falls, Thursday, Jan. 23, Cooper Ross and Bjorn Pedersen scored 15 points each as the Wildcats won, 70-34.

Andersen led the Loggers with 12 points and Alderic Martineau scored eight points.

For the girls squad, they fell to Columbia Falls, 64-31, Thursday, Jan. 23, and Polson, 49-36, Saturday, Jan. 25.

Columbia Falls took a 20-5 lead after one quarter and was up 42-15 at the half.

Rylee Delmas led Libby with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. 

Saturday, Jan. 25, Libby stayed close, trailing by two points, 19-17, at the half. Delmas helped Libby stay close with a 3-pointer and two free throws while Peyton Waggoner had four points.

Polson pushed its advantage to 10 points, 34-24, after three quarters of play.

Rachel Kosters scored two baskets to keep Libby close, 36-31, with 3:23 left to play.

But a 3-pointer by Lady Pirate senior Aleysia Black made it 39-31 with 2:19 left. Rylee Taylor-Jefferson steal and subsequent free throws pushed the lead to 10, 41-31, with 1:57 left.

Tuesday, the Loggers hosted Whitefish and fell 33-30. 

Libby (1-10, 0-5 Northwest A) led 17-15 at the half, but Whitefish pulled ahead after three quarters, 25-20. 

Madison Vincent and Kosters each scored eight points while Delmas scored seven.

Libby hosts Browning Saturday. Girls varsity action begins at 4 p.m. with the boys game to follow.
