Hagadone Media Group to print The Spokesman-Review
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 months, 1 week AGO
SPOKANE — Coeur d’Alene’s Hagadone Media Group will print Spokane’s daily newspaper, The Spokesman-Review, starting in September, the two companies announced today.
The change is driven by the announced closure of the newspaper’s current printer, Northwest Offset Printing (“NWOP”). Both NWOP and The Spokesman-Review are subsidiaries of Cowles Company. HMG, owned by The Hagadone Corporation, currently prints daily and weekly newspapers for Hagadone, including The Coeur d’Alene Press, The Bonner County Daily Bee, The Columbia Basin Herald, and The Bonners Ferry Herald.
Hagadone Communications Division President Clint Schroeder expressed his excitement about the opportunity to print Spokane’s newspaper. “On behalf of The Hagadone Corporation, we look forward to a long and successful partnership in further support of strong journalism in the Inland Northwest,” he said.
Cowles and Hagadone have competed in the newspaper business for generations. Still, with the print and newspaper industries facing economic headwinds, leaders from both family-owned companies said collaboration on printing makes logistical and financial sense.
“We are intensely focused on making sure we can preserve our deadlines for our readers and advertisers, and HMG has the location, expertise, and experience to do a great job for us,” said William “Stacey” Cowles, president of Cowles Company.
The two companies will work together in the coming months to install inserting equipment from NWOP, thereby doubling HMG’s capacity to ensure that delivery deadlines can be maintained for all titles concerned.
